A.    What’s Input

Input is to provide or give any data and instructions to computer.

B.    Keyboard and Pointing Device

1.     The Keyboard

An input device contains keys such as letters, numbers, and other symbols to enter data and instructions into a computer





                2.     Mouse


Is a pointing device which the movement can be control by us and we can select an object by clicking the object.


 

 

 


3.     Trackball

Is a pointing device with a ball used to input motion data into computers or other devices.


 

 

 


4.     Touchpad

Is a pointing device that allows the user to move a cursor dan select objects with their finger.

 

 


5.     Pointing Stick

Is a small pointing device. Pointing stick shaped like a small rubber and located between the keys on a keyboard.

 

 

 



C.    Touch Screen and Touch-Sensitive Pads

Touch screen is a device with a sensitive screen where we can move the screen or select objects with our finger.

 

 

 



1.     Touch-Sensitive Pads

Is a sensitive input device where we can move the cursor in the device by moving our finger on that device.

 

 

 

 

  

D.    Input Pen

Input pen is an input device with a shape like a digital pen that allow us to touch the device’s screen, draw, and write something in the device by moving the input pen on the device’s screen


 

 


E.    Other Types of Input

1.     Other Input for Smartphones

There are many kinds of input devices for smartphone, such as:

a.     Headphone, headset, and earphone

b.     Wireless earphone and headphone

c.     Stylus pen

d.     Data cables

2.     Game Controllers

a.     Game pads

Is a type of game controller held by two hands. To control the movement and actions of the players in the game.

b.     Joysticks and Wheels

Joysticks is a stick shaped input device to control the angle or direction in a game.

Wheels is an input device looks like a steering wheel to control a video game, such as a racing game.

c.     Light Gun

A gun shaped input device to shoot target and moving objects.

d.     Dance Pads

Have some panels to press by players feet based on the game’s instruction

e.     Motion-Sensing Game Controllers

Allows the player to guide or give direction through the air.

f.      Other Game Controller

Such as musical instrument and balance board

3.     Digital Cameras

Is a device that allow us to takes photos and store them.

4.     Voice Input

Allow us to give direction to the device by speaking to the device through the microphone.

a.     Audio Input

Allows us to input any audio to the device

5.     Video Input

a.     Web Cams

Also called as PC video camera. To capture videos or photos from our PC or Laptop

b.     Video Conferencing

Using internet to transmit the audio and voice. Connecting several people from different places for meeting purposes.

6.     Scanners and Reading Devices

a.     Optical Scanners

To read and input printed text, graphic, or picture into the device

b.     Optical Readers

An input device that reads the characters, marks, and codes then converts them to digital data

c.     Bar code Readers

A device that can read bar code by using laser

d.     RFID Readers

Uses radio-frequency to transfer and receive data from the RFID tag.

e.     Magnetic Stripe Card Readers

To read Magnetic Stripe from the back of the card, such as credit cards, bank cards, etc.

f.      MICR Readers

To read text printed or written with magnetized ink.

7.     Biometric Input

Verifying someone by reading someone’s characteristics

8.     Terminals

Allow a computer to send data and receive information from the host computer.

F.    What’s Output

Output is to process any data and instructions from the computer into information.

G.    Display Devices

To visualize information from the device, such as text, pictures, and videos.

a.     LCD Monitors and LCD Screen

A monitors that uses liquid compound to display images

b.     Plasma Monitors

A monitors that uses gas plasma tecnology to display images

c.     CRT Monitors

A monitors that contains a cathode-ray tube to display images

H.   Printers

1.     Producing Printed Output

There are printers which need to be connected to the device by cable, but now there are also wireless printers.

2.     Nonimpact Printers

Forms characters and graphics on a piece of paper by laser.

3.     Ink-Jet Printers

Forms characters and graphics by spraying tiny drops of liquid ink.

4.     Photo Printers

Printers for the purpose of printing high quality photos

5.     Laser Printers

6.     Multifunction Peripherals

7.     Thermal Printers

8.     Mobile Printers

9.     Plotters and Large-Format Printers
